The main contributors to the change in March Ouarter 2020 are Education Group, Transport Group, Restaurants & Hotels Group and Clothing and Footwear Group.
Facts
The All Group CPI increased by 1.1 percent from December Ouarter 2019 to March Ouarter 2020.
The All Group CPI also shows an annual increase of 3.1 percent from March quarter 2019 to March quarter 2020.
Major Changes are in;
- Education (+5.2%)
The rise in Education Group lndex in this quarter was mainly due to the increase in Prices for other Expenses (+8.5%). - Transport (+3.9%)
The rise in Transport Group lndex in this quarter was mainly due to the increase Motor Vehicles Purchasing (+9.9%). - Restaurants and Hotels Group (+1.9%)
The rise in Restaurants and Hotels Group index this quarter was due to the increase in the prices of Takeaway Food (+2.7%). - Clothing and Footwear (+1.1%)
The increase in the Clothing and Footwear Group this quarter was due to the increase in the prices Women and Girl’s Wear (+3.8%)
Alcohol beverages, Tobacco and Betel-Nut (-0.5%)
The lndex in this group has decreased because the method of data collection has improved from collecting Betel-Nut in Heaps per week to collecting Single Betel-Nut per day for five {5) working days. The reason is because the majority of the population buy single Betel-Nut sold by the vendors and not in heaps.
Communication Group (-0.5%)
The lndex in this group has decreased due to the improved method of data collection. The method of collecting only K5 prepaid has now improved by including K3, K5, K10 and K20 prepaid with its Data plans, Calls and SMS plans and Bundle plans provided by the three (3) telecommunication companies.
