Small-scale interim activities
In the absence of an updated and complete census, and with the urgent demand for data for evidenced-based planning, programme monitoring, and project evaluation, there is a need to generate quick population counts and production of key indicators that would feed into the planning and programming system of the country;
NSO and UNFPA have recommended to conduct small-scale interim activities
- Population Modelled Estimation (PME) an innovative approach for quick generation of population counts for the whole country through the use of geospatial technology (remote sensing) and statistical applications;
- Socio-Demographic and Economic Survey (SDES) that will collect and generate important indicators at the national level for monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP), PNG Vision 2050 and other national plans and policies;
- Data literacy and appreciation program to create demand for data and increase the understanding or raise awareness of the concerned government leaders/officials/planners on the importance of data for planning.
- Analysis of the Provincial differentials on demographic dividend to understand provincial differences in achieving the demographic dividend which is also important for sub-national level planning.
