To support the National Statistical Office (NSO) in coordination and monitoring of census operations in Madang Province, the Madang Provincial Administrator Mr. Frank Lau has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with National Statistician Mr. John Igitoi, witnessed by NSO census directorates and Madang Provincial Legal Officer. This MOA signing ceremony took place at the NSO Head Quarters, Waigani on Thursday 23rd November, 2023.
Mr. Lau expressed his gratitude before the signing of MOA saying, “I am honored to work with your office, this has been lacking for some time now in our province”. For the common understanding in the agreement signing, Mr. Igitoi clarified in his speech saying, “This is an open commitment between NSO and Madang Provincial Administration to share documents and assist in data collection”.
This MOA signing is important as it provides an agreement between NSO and the Madang Provincial Administration to share resources to implement and deliver the census successfully in Madang Province. The MOA is a strategic move as part of the resource mobilization efforts to overcome the funding constraints experienced since the inception of the census in 2019.
The Madang Provincial Administration is now set to work alongside NSO to facilitate and support the coordination and operations of census in Madang province.
