National Population & Housing Census 2011
The Papua New Guinea National Statistics Office (NSO) prepares for this nation-wide undertaking
"The NSO will ensure that the 2011 Census of population and housing is conducted in July, 2011 and that it is carried out successfully, taking into account international recommendations and best practices in census undertaking."
The NSO is the agency in PNG with the responsibility (under the Statistical Services Act (1981)) for conducting the census. It is now a matter of urgency that the NSO must submit a proposal (currently in progress) to the National Executive Council (NEC) to conduct the next national census in the year 2010. This provides the NSO over a year lead up time for preparation.

"Current Consumption and Expenditure of Households in PNG have significantly changed since the last Household Income and Expenditure survey was conducted. Baseline data derived from past surveys are out of date. It is time to revise these to reflect the current household consumption and expenditure patterns".

Headline CPI
The CPI shows 1.3% in September Quarter 2010, compared to 1.6% in June Quarter of 2010. The CPI headline index also shows an annual change of 5.6% over 12 months from September Quarter 2009 to September Quarter 2010.
