The World Statistics Day was observed and celebrated by the National Statistical Office in Port Moresby yesterday, 20th October, 2020.

The theme of the World Statistics Day was “Connecting the world with data we can trust.”

The National Statistical Office invited development partners such as various United Nations agencies, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Department of National Planning and Monitoring, other state agencies and schools in the National Capital District to join in celebrating the World Statistics Day.

Acting National Statistician, John Igitoi and other speakers spoke of the importance of real time and trusted population and socio-economic statistical data needed to drive the development agendas of PNG and the world. They have also spoken of investment in evidence-based data that users can trust.

To mark the occasion, the National Statistical Office erected several tents at its Waigani headquarters to exhibit some of its recent statistical products for public viewing and consumption.
